Now that was a very good year.

General Motors grew U.S. sales by 4% in 2024, to 2.7 million vehicles, our highest total since 2019. Our vehicles captured 17% of the domestic auto market, powered by solid sales gains by all four of our major brands – Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, and Buick.

The numbers were strong by many measures.

December quarter sales were up 21% from the year-earlier period. Electric vehicle sales jumped 50% for the year and 125% for the quarter – our share of the U.S. EV market roughly doubled over the course of the year. We were the #2 seller of EVs in the U.S. in the second half of 2024. In EVs, sales accelerated throughout the year, with Q4 sales of 42,000 units, up 10,000 from the third quarter level, and nearly twice the second quarter total.

Not too shabby.

We also had strength in our traditional gas and diesel powered vehicles. In fact, GM was the leading seller of full-size pickups for the fifth straight year – with the highest annual sales since 2007. And we were the top seller of full-size sport utility vehicles for the 50th straight year. That’s no typo – for half a century, we’ve led the competition in large SUVs.

Buick had its best year since 2021. Chevrolet sales were the highest since 2019. Cadillac sales in the U.S. were the highest since 2016. And GMC had its best year ever in 2024.

As Rory Harvey, GM executive VP and president of global markets said in commenting on the results, “We have something for everyone.”
